the one where marirob becomes a sewing blog

Well, I am joking - just a bit. Knitting will always be my favorite craft. It has given me so much enjoyment over the past few years and I always get excited seeing what everyone else in blogland is making. Having said that, Rob did get me a sewing machine for my birthday a couple of years ago. And this past birthday he got me a few sewing books. With the cold weather, it felt like the right time to spend some time inside sewing. The book I've been using lately is this one.

It's Sew U by Wendy Mullin. I hadn't heard about "Built by Wendy" products until I saw Diana's post about her cool coat. So I decided to take the plunge and buy a couple of shirt patterns.

I bought some beautiful Liberty Lawn fabric from Purl Patchwork when we were in New York for the holidays. But I wanted to test out a pattern with some cheaper fabric, so I got some stuff from Jo-anns as well.

Not bad for some fabric from Joanns!

The oh-so-lovely Liberty fabric.

I've completed one shirt and I should have the other finished by tomorrow - hopefully we can take photos this weekend.

Of course, I couldn't resist getting more fabric from Purl. I got three fabric bundles in anticipation of making some quilts.

And, trying to follow one of my New Year's resolutions - take the time to do things right - I actually prewashed and pressed all of the fabric.

Guess who else has caught the sewing bug? That's right, Rob! He actually designed two stuffed animals, one which I sewed for him and the other which he did EVERYTHING himself.

This is Stewart, who looks a little grumpy. I think it's because I made his knitted arms too fat.

Meet Hercules! He's a little top heavy, but he's inspired by Unki, who's been getting fatter as the winter progresses.

It's hard to capture, but there's definitely more of him to snuggle with!

Hercules is cute. You always pick such neat fabric patterns out.

Hercules, hercules! So cute! And that liberty fabric... so jealous! Isn't purl patchwork like candyland? I couldn't decided what I wanted when I was there. But you scored! Can't wait to see your shirt.

did you know that the Purl Soho warehouse is in Costa Mesa? If you see fabric that you like on the online store, you can visit the store and purchase it in person! I look forward to see how your projects turn out!
