Cross-eyed with colors

When there's a project I really, really want to work on, I just do it. To the detriment of everything else. I'm sure many people can relate to what I'm talking about. So I give you...

My completed queen-sized quilt top version of the Color Wheel Quilt! Woo hoo!

I'm not just saying this because I work for purl, but this is such a great project. I think the quilt is one of the more easy quilts I've made. Why? One word - templates! There's a large fold-out paper with pattern pieces for the quilt, and all the pieces are included (which there are only three). The most fun part for me was creating the color wheel. I replaced around 8 fabrics with ones I've used in other projects or received as gifts. This is definitely a very do-able projects. The advice I would give is 1. Take your time and 2. Use lots of pins! Pins are our friends. :)

Of course, I had to make this into a queen size quilt, which is where I ran into problems. Namely, MATH!!! Once math comes into crafting, my brain kind of goes nuts. I was trying to figure out the most efficient way to use my remaining fabric, using equations and formulas and little diagrams. And I was just adding panels to the sides, top and bottom. What ended up happening? A mess! In the end, I mis-cut 3 yards of muslin that I'll just save for my next quilt.

When I finish the quilt (and I am DETERMINED to finish it!), I'll post all of my mods to the original pattern. The next step will be to baste the quilt sandwich, and I might have to lock myself up in a room by myself - Unki thinks he's helping, but, really, does laying on the exact spot I need to work on really count as helping?

Great job! I looked at that pattern and thought, "there's no way I could make that." And yours is so lovely.

It looks great! Nice work Mari!
Isn't that sweet how helpful cats become when there's a quilt on the floor? The last time I was basting one I put a finished quilt out thinking maybe our cat would lay one that instead. No go.

Now I REALLY want one! What size is the pattern actually intended for?

Dear Unki,

Great job helping your mom sew the quilt. Recently I helped my mom make silk flower faeries. We had great fun except when mom had to pull what she thought was a teeny piece of ribbon out of my mouth. Turned out that I had swallowed quite a long stretch of ribbon and when she pulled it out a clump of food came with it. Mom was grossed out. I simply re-ate the food.
Love,
Lorenzo Wyatt

That does it. I HAVE to make one now. I'm so happy to hear it's not as complicated as I had imagined it would be.

And what is it with cats and their sixth sense - always sitting exactly where we are trying to knit/work/read/write/sit.

Egads! That is mighty impressive!!! I'm gob-smacked as the Brits would say :)

It's beautiful. No wonder you've been single-minded about it.

Where there is fabric, there is a cat. Or two. I recently did a post about this age-old adage, as I have two overly-enthusiastic helpers myself!

I just LOVE your color wheel, and I will be anxiously awaiting your queen-sized update. Thanks for all your crafty inspiration!

Beautiful! Quilting is one of those things I so admire but can't get my head around -- especially when the sewing involves curves!
