8 things about me!

Stephanie tagged me for the 8 things about yourself meme that's been floating around the blogosphere. And I know someone else tagged me when I was in Japan, but I can't remember who and I'm sorry! So here goes:

1. I've been told I have a very "distinctive" walk. Of course, I've never seen myself walk so I don't know if that's true, but people have recognized me from far away because of my walk.

2. I bruise really easily. 99% of my bruises I have no idea how I got. Earlier this year I had one that was so big and black on the back of my leg it freaked me out when I saw it in the shower. How'd it get there? No idea!

3. I can handle seeing surgeries, blood, needles, etc., but I hate seeing people vomit. Even fake movie vomit. Freaks me out!

4. I am very sensitive to caffeine, so much so that I've sworn it off for the past ten years. Well, all except a morning cup of tea or, if I'm on vacation, a cup of coffee.

5. I love love love love sweets. Sometimes I eat dinner just to get dessert.

6. I am by nature a shy person but I've tried really hard to get over my shyness. I still get really uncomfortable when strangers talk to me. When we lived in DC, strangers talked to me ALL THE TIME, especially when I was waiting to cross the street in the city. Rob said that never happened to him. Is it because I look non-threatening? Or I look lost and lonely?

7. I am a huge Anglophile. I think it's because I was raised on a book diet of Daphne du Maurier and Agatha Christie, and moved on to Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen in college. I think I know more about British history than US history, and I definitely know more British history than Japanese history. Anyone want to chat about the Glorious Revolution?

8. I love getting gifts but I love giving gifts more!

I think I'm supposed to tag 8 people, but I'm only tagging one - Mina, you're it!

As I was reading your meme, I got a very surreal feeling. You're describing me to a "t". Answers # 2,3,4,5,6 and 7 are especially true for me. Isn't that weird?

Speaking of all things British, are you as excited about the new "Elizabeth" movie as I am?

We have two things in common. People know it's me from a distance by my walk (and scowl) and I still struggle with shyness. I think that's why I love blogging, I'm more comfortable with the written word =)

I bruise really easily too, but oh my gawd, the vomit thing? Me too! My parents used to make fun of me for high-tailing it out of the room when the dog would start dry heaving.

Hi, I'm a bit of a lurker on your blog, but I might have commented before (can't remember). Your comment about strangers coming up and talking to you rings true with me as well. It seems that most of the people who come up to me just start talking to me like they have known me for years and most of them are quite foul-mouthed. I'm always shocked that people would just walk up to a stranger and start a conversation that is interspersed with such colorful language. I wonder why people do this--I almost never swear, and when I have, I have been alone. I think I look like a quiet, friendly, church-mouse kind of person, so I don't get it. Oh well-maybe people figure that I am a good person to tell their problems to!?

How funny - I also bruise like a peach, am overly sensitive to caffeine, and crave sugar. I wonder if there's something to that trio that makes them connected somehow? Hm. Caffeine, even the trace amount in decaf coffee is like my secret power source I'll turn to if I really need to get some work accomplished - I am very very careful to not to do it too often, but when I do, man am I flying!
