Our own Lost in Translation

Well, we've made it! It's crazy that in one day you could be at home and then be sleeping that night in a different country. After a seemingly quick flight across the Pacific via Korean Air, my uncle Mimichan and cousin Minori picked us up from Narita Airport at 4 in the afternoon on Sunday.

Huay, my mom, Minori and me at the airport.

My uncle is infamous for finding out someone's favorite food and making sure they have some on their trip. This time, he found out that Rob loves Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) sandwiches and he brought some to the airport.

So beautifully packaged!

He also brought a variety of drinks, including strawberry milk, green tea latte, and a beer.

Hey Rob! Are you breaking the law?

The four girls were crammed into the back while we watched sumo wrestling on TV.

I have to say, only out of concern, that the last thing a driver like my uncle needs to distract him is a TV in the dashboard.

We were under the impression that Mimichan would pick us up and drive us directly to the hotel. But he wanted to show us the sights, which included driving across Tokyo bay via the Aqua Line.

This is a picture from the man made island in the middle of the bay.

He took us to Asakusa, which has a historic temple and shopping area.

The area is beautifully lit at night.

Even though we had already eaten four meals (Breakfast, two on the plane, and tonkatsu sandwiches), Mimichan insisted we have tempura.

It's amazing how much food you can eat in one day with a 18 hour time difference.

After staying up for over 24 hours, we were finally able to go to our hotel and check in. Rob said the view from our hotel reminds him of Lost in Translation.

Next - our first full day in Tokyo, which includes smelling fish, seeing fish, and eating fish!
