Coachella recap

I promise that my next post will be all about knitting, but we're taking a little trip into music today. Just skip this post if you don't like robots!

Rob and I had a fantastic time at Coachella last weekend. We only went Saturday, so no, we didn't see Madonna, but that's ok.

Coachella is out in the desert and it was in the mid-90s, so we tried to pace ourselves. We're not the young pups we once were and we needed to last until midnight to see the group we came to Coachella to see (more of that at the end of the post). We got there at noon, saw our favorite bands, danced out feet off, and didn't get to the hotel until 2:30 am (that's like 6 hours past our normal bedtime! tee hee!). Here are some highlights.

(We ended up seeing some really good acts but Rob didn't take many photos, he took more videos, which we may put up at some point.)

This is The Like, a band from LA. I think these girls graduated from high school two years ago. They were better than I thought they'd be but I bet their parents paid for guitar lessons.

We took a break in the shade and watched Common, who was pretty entertaining. He told us that men only stray because women look so good. Ha!

Nice stripes!

We also saw Nine Black Alps (rock star attitude mixed with great energy), My Morning Jacket (lots of flailing hair and fun!), and Kanye West. Kanye was so much more entertaining that we thought he'd be. He even danced the Carlton to A-ha's Take On Me! That's definitely knowing your audience. I think that's the best part of festivals, you get to see acts that you would never see otherwise.

Waiting for Nine Black Alps in the Mojave Tent.

Then we poked our heads in to see Ladytron, but we didn't get to hear my favorite song.

Hey Ladytron, why so dark? You guys are rock stars!

Franz Ferdinand was up next, no photos, but one of our mutual favorite bands. They were great.

We only decided to go to Coachella only because Daft Punk was playing. "Who's Daft Punk?" you might be thinking. Well, they are two guys from Paris who do techno/house/dance music. Their albums (well, the first two) are really catchy and great. However, they're robots. Yep, robots.

So they're not REALLY robots, but part of their schtick is that they had an "accident" in their studio one day and they became robots. But their last album was called "Human After All". They haven't played in the States in 8 or 9 years and so the big question was - were they perfoming as robots or as humans?

ROBOTS! And the crowd goes wild! (No, they did. Really. Everyone went crazy, us included).

Their set was about 1 hour 20 minutes long, pretty much non-stop. They just kept mixing one song into another. And it was a light-show extravaganza as well.

(I've borrowed these pictures from various others who got great shots.)
It was a great ending to our day. I'm so happy we went. For about 1 hour and 20 minutes, I felt like I was 15 again.

Reading this post, I now think we are either insane or have crazy taste in music. Maybe a little of both!

Mmm ... sounds like fun! So you like techno/house/dance music? My husband is very compassionate about techno music and he did write and remix music. A little self-promotion for him ... if you don't mind and are interested, you can go to his page where you can find his works: http://www.soundclick.com/pro/view/02/default.cfm?bandID=475771&content=music
I don't know if there is space for you to give him opinions, but I'm sure he welcome comments. Also, I have to ask him if he knows Daft Punk ... since he's from France.
Have a wonderful weekend.
