Faux-Spade Messenger Bag

I hope everyone had a nice New Year's Day and Eve. We spent New Year's Eve picking up a friend from the airport and New Year's Day was spent celebrating my nephew's birthday - he's 1!

I finished my messenger bag yesterday that was influenced by this bag by Jack Spade. I learned so much putting this bag together. It's rough around the edges, but there are some things that turned out pretty nice.

I used some brown canvas and a striped Amy Butler fabric for the lining.

I put a zipped pocket and a pen/cell phone pocket in the inside.

Maggie's foot got in the picture.

My favorite part - I put in an Ipod pocket in the front of the bag and the buttonhole is for the headphones. This is directly from the Jack Spade bag.

I still need to add velcro to close the bag. But even though sewing is so quick, I really stressed out making the bag. I keep saying that it's not relaxing like knitting is. So, just like after my last sewing FO, I need to show some knitting.

I've finished the back and half of the front of my luxury tweed sweater. It's coming along slow but steady. The more I knit with Luxury Tweed, the more I like it. I was dropping some stitches at first but now I'm really in the groove.

If you've been following along, you'll know that I made this messenger bag as practice to make Rob one. I think I'm going to make myself one more bag, slightly smaller, and try to work out some of the kinks that this bag encountered. But I think my priority will be to finish the sweater.

Great job on the bag! I have definately found that sewing is more of a stressful exhilerating experience, as opposed to the near meditative relaxing quality of knitting. While knitting can be frustrating, it doesn't quite match sewing in it's ability to get my heart pumping out of my chest

GREAT JOB! I agree with you that sewing definitely isn't as relaxing as knitting, but when I'm done, I do get that "Wow! This is so cool!" feeling once I'm done.

Love that bag!! Sewing is fun because it's quick, but I agree that it's more stressful than knitting. You did a great job on the bag....yummy interior fabric.
